I have my Welding-Fitting DEP — can I work on construction sites right away?
Not quite yet. With your DEP, you can apply for an occupation competency certificate (CCO) from the CCQ. First you need to pass the General Knowledge of the Construction Industry course (CCGIC) and have a job guarantee of at least 150 hours. Once your CCO is in hand, you're cleared to work on sites.
Do my CWB or pressure vessel certifications give me an edge?
Yes, especially if you're targeting industrial work or high-pressure pipefitting. Some jobs require them outright. Plus, the CCQ has a Welding Qualification Fund that can reimburse your certification exam fees if your employer requires them.
